Have you ever had a friend leave the room and say, ‘I’ll be back,” in a faux Schwarzenegger accent? That’s one that gets old pretty quickly...but so many of our favourite movie quotes have come to infiltrate our everyday lives, whether said in jest or an attempt to be poignant there’s some famous film lines we can't escape.

The Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger in 'The Terminator'

‘I'll Be Back’

Perhaps the most obvious, this quote from 1984’s 'Terminator' is one you can manage to fit in numerous times a day. Whether or not you decide to attempt the Schwarzenegger accent, everybody knows what movie this one comes from. Recently it topped a poll by Lovefilm to find the best movie catchpharse. Fun fact: in the original script the line was ‘I will be back’, which doesn't sound as catchy.

Leonardo DiCaprio TitanicLeonardo DiCaprio [L] and Kate Winslet [R] Starred in 'Titanic'

"I'm King of the World!"

This one is good for when you just climbed...something...and wish to show your excitement, much like Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in 'Titanic'. It is particularly effective if you’re on a boat, though preferably not one headed towards an iceberg. DiCaprio may have done a good job of delivering the line as Jack Dawson but any mere mortal trying it just sounds like an idiot. This quote topped a 2004 list of the cheesiest movie lines ever.

Toy Story Buzz Lightyear [L] in 'Toy Story'

"To Infinity and Beyond!"

The air travel equivalent of ‘I’m king of the world!’ is Buzz Lightyear’s catchphrase from 'Toy Story'. ‘To infinity and beyond’ is usually recited by someone embarking on a journey who don't realise that Buzz Lightyear is a fictional toy and therefore can get away with it. Actual people just sound silly.

Apollo 13Ron Howard's Apollo 13 Introduced THAT Famous Line

"Houston We Have a Problem"

Tom Hanks delivers this line in 1995’s ‘Apollo 13’, a film based on the events of the 1970 Apollo 13 lunar mission. Whilst a lot of the dialogue between ground control and the astronauts was taken from the actual transcripts and recordings, this one was the work of Hollywood. In real life you don't need to be facing near death in outer space to use this one, people seem to bring it out any time trouble is afoot.

Bruce AlmightyMorgan Freeman [L] and Jim Carrey [R] in 'Bruce Almighty'

"B-E-A-U-tiful"

A certain kind of person from a certain era may choose to spell out the word beautiful a la Jim Carrey’s character in 2003’s ‘Bruce Almighty’. This one is particularly annoying, and a quick google shows that the internet has many, "I learned how to spell beautiful from watching Bruce Almighty" pages.

Star Wars A New HopeStar Wars: A New Hope

"May The Force Be With You"

A geek’s favourite way of saying good luck, this quote was actually said by General Dodonna in ‘Star Wars’ and not Obi Wan Kenowbi, whom it is usually attributed to. It is, however, later said by Harrison Ford's character. This quote is one of the most well known movie quotes of all time, even if you’ve never seen 'Star Wars'. Another S'ar Wars' quote that some try and filter into everyday life is, "Luke I am your father," though clearly that’s harder to fit into everyday conversation. Unless you reunite with your long-lost son, Luke.

Leslie Nielsen AirplaneLeslie Nielsen [L] in Airplane!

"...And Don't Call Me Shirley"

This was funny when you first heard the late Leslie Nielsen say it in 'Airplane!' However if you’ve ever met anyone who’s used it more than once after you’ve said ‘surely’, you'll know how quickly you can get sick of it. Simply, it is only funny in the movie, someone has either seen the movie and therefore won't find you saying it funny or they haven't seen 'Airplane' and might just feel a bit confused.

Robert De Niro"You Talkin' To Me?" Robert De Niro in 'Taxi Driver'

"You Talkin' To Me?"

Hopefully no one has ever used Robert DeNiro’s famous 'Taxi Driver' quote during an actual serious confrontation, but many have said it in an attempt at humour. This is one of those lines that only works in its original setting, its so memorable due to DeNiro’s unique delivery. Travis Baker says the infamous line while standing in front of the mirror, it wasn't in the original script, instead it came from one of De Niro's improv sessions.

Wizard of OzJudy Garland [right, centre] in 'The Wizard of Oz'

"There's No Place Like Home"

From the ‘Wizard of Oz’, this simple quote is one you’ve surely (don’t call me…) heard used in real life. If not you’ve probably seen it inscribed on a door mat or a hanging sign. Either way its become a very annoying and overused cliche which has lost its original charm. Another Dorothy quote is "I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore," that people usually bring out when they find themselves somewhere strange or new.

Al Pacino ScarfaceAl Pacino in 'Scarface'

"Say Hello To My Little Friend"

This line from 'Scarface' is much parodied in other films and on television. You may think it would be a hard one to get into real life, considering Pacino says it in the movie whilst brandishing a machine gun, but many have tried to work it into everyday conversation. This is one you really need to stay away from using unless you are Al Pacino playing Tony Montana and have a massive machine gun.
