choose once again to stay true to themselves and to their sound, delivering the perfectly crafted “Gods and Monsters”. What is most noticeable about this album is an added theatrical drama and many incisive piano hooks, less evident in the previously self-titled release, and – despite an ever acoustic feel – an increased twist and at times a funkier rhythm. That could only be a good thing. Forthcoming single “Over My Shoulder” is the embodiment of these many ideas, with a country-ballad feel but delicate jazzy drums and infectious bass hooks; “Astray” is pure poetry, a guitar-and-voice ballad on love, and whose melancholy is so heartfelt that it makes your legs shake. Oriental-feely “Hong Kong Lullaby” is the perfect interlude and introduction to the following “Sand and Glue”, a darker and more enraged rock song. “Dead Men’s Cigarette” with its surreal lyrics goes beyond irony into a deeper disillusion feeling, while final track “I Believe” is the glorious conclusion of a meaningful, thought out and mature album.
