Hilary Duff Follows Up 'Chasing The Sun' With New Single, 'All About You'

Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff sure knows how to make a comeback. After a seven year drought without new music, she released her brand new single, ‘Chasing The Sun,’ just a few weeks ago - but that’s not at all. This week, she put out single number two, ‘All About You,’ and it’s the kind of track we’ve all been waiting for.

Hilary Duff Staples CenterHilary Duff released her second single, ‘All About You,’ this week.

Even though new music is out, the whole comeback in general is off to a pretty weird start. Back in the middle of June, it was reported that UK star Ed Sheeran was the brains behind Duff’s new single, having written the song with her in the studio in the matter of two hours. “Obviously she comes from Lizzie McGuire and that pop world but she’s more grown up now, so it’s more of an adult alternative acoustic sound,” Sheeran told Digital Spy. However, when details about ‘Chasing the Sun’ surfaced, Sheeran was nowhere in sight. The summer-y pop acoustic tune was instead written by a team that consisted of Colbie Caillat, Jason Reeves, and Toby Gad, and the general consensus was that it wasn’t too good. Vulture described it as sounding “like Paris Hilton doing Sheryl Crow karaoke.” Ouch. As far as commercial performance, ‘Chasing the Sun’ debuted at number 79 on the Billboard Hot 100. Not exactly the explosion that RCA Records were probably hoping for.

Ariana, Zooey, J-Lo, Miley! When Actresses Become Songstresses

Jenny Lewis Miley Cyrus Kylie Minogue Zooey Deschanel Ariana Grande Scarlett Johansson Juliette Lewis Taylor Momsen Jennifer Lopez Hilary Duff Selena Gomez Demi Lovato Lindsay Lohan She & Him Juliette And The Licks The Pretty Reckless

There seems to be a special musical buzz in the entertainment business at the moment reserved for screen actresses who are wanting to spread their wings in their career - and maybe earn some more money too. Whether it's Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande blowing everyone away with her stunning vocal range as she gears up to release her second album this summer, or indie favourite Jenny Lewis becoming ever more successful with her solo singing career after a good three years fronting a band, it appears that some actresses just can't resist testing their pipes in the recording studio. Even Hollywood sensation Scarlett Johansson dipped her toes in musical waters back in 2008 with her well-praised debut 'Anywhere I Lay My Head'.

While we're half expecting Keira Knightley to release a record any day now after singing on her latest drama 'Begin Again', we look at the film world's biggest female musical successes.

Jenny Lewis promoJenny Lewis: Singer-songwriter Jenny Lewis this week released Voyager, her critically acclaimed third studio album. Although best known for her time fronting indie favourites, Rilo Kiley, music wasn't actually Lewis's first career choice, instead the Vegas native was intially known as an actress. Her early showbiz experience mainly consisted of TV roles, with small parts in the likes of 'Baywatch', 'Brooklyn Bridge' and 'The New Twilight Zone' in the 80s and early 90s as well as film stints on 'Troop Beverly Hills' and 'The Wizard'. Her last major acting venture came with 1995's black and white drama 'Don's Plum' alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire before she formed Rilo Kiley with then-boyfriend Blake Sennett.

What We Know About Hilary Duff's Comeback Single, 'Chasing The Sun'

Hilary Duff Ed Sheeran

Lizzie McGuire is back! Well, not really, but Hilary Duff as a musician is back. And that's even better. The 26 year old actress/singer has kept it low key on the music front for quite a long time. Her last album, Dignity, was released all the way back in 2007, and it feels like a million years ago that her music videos were huge on TRL. Luckily, some good news: her comeback single, ‘Chasing the Sun,’ is expected to arrive very soon.

Hilary Duff Staples CenterHilary Duff's new single, 'Chasing the Sun,' will debut soon

Duff's been working on her new tunes for years, saying that she hopes to get back into music before movies again. "I would love to do mainstream movies again. Before that, I will be spending a lot of time in the studio making a new record. I really miss being on tour, recording, and creating new music," she said in 2012. However, despite all the studio time and work with producer/songwriters Matt Squire and Boys Like Girls singer Martin Johnson, not even a clip has been revealed thus far.

Aaron took to his Twitter account to announce “I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to better myself to get back to her. I don’t care what ANY of you think.” Heyyyy, calm down, Aaron. But you know, it’s cool that you’re trying to better yourself to be a worthier man should you win her back this time round. Hilary’s always seemed like a nice girl with her head screwed on, so she deserves somebody who will treat her right.

Dancing Star Melissa Gilbert Ties The Knot With Actor Timothy Bushfield

Melissa Gilbert Drew Barrymore Hilary Duff

There was dancing and there were stars – of the literal kind – as former Dancing with the Stars contestant Melissa Gilbert got hitched to Thirtysomething actor Timothy Bushfield on Wednesday, April 24. The couple opted for an intimate ceremony. The pair tied the knot "in a private ceremony at San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara on April 24," Gilbert's rep confirms to People Magazine.

Gilbert (48) is probably best known for her role on “Little House On The Prairie”. Her beau has some impressive TV credentials as well, having appeared on Blue Bloods, Law & Order and The West Wing. Gilbert and 55-year-old Bushfield broke the news of their engagement back in December and, after just six months, the pair have opted to tied the knot. Both have been married twice before, but they say third time’s the charm, right? Gilbert is also a mother of two, while Bushfield has three children from previous marriages.

Gilbert opted out of the traditional white gown and instead went for a red number with a classic cut – a perfect complement to the warm spring night of the wedding. This isn’t the first high profile event, held at Ysidro Ranch. Over the years, the luxury hotel has played host to a number of celebs, from Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman, who had their rehearsal dinner there, to Hillary Duff, who chose the place for her wedding night.

Hilary Duff, Ashton Kutcher To Play Lovers On 'Two And A Half Men'

Ashton Kutcher Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff, Ashton Kutcher? No, it's not what you're thinking, well, it sort of is. It looks like Duff, best known for playing Lizzie McGuire, will be returning to television this spring to play Kutcher's love-interest on Two and a Half Men. According to TVLine, Hilary, 25, will play first-time mom Stacey, a woman who catches Walden's eye on the season finale of the CBS show.

However, Duff isn't the only one who turns Kutcher's head on the show. According to E! Online, Walden will end up falling for her grandmother, played by the 60-year-old Celebrity Apprentice star Marilu Henner! Off-screen, Duff has had no problems getting back into shape after the birth of her 11-month-old son Luca, with NFL star Mike Comrie. "My one trainer helped me lose a sh-t ton of weight," she told Us Weekly in February. "I lost like 30 pounds. His name is Gabe Johns and he is amazing. He's a boxing trainer and he comes to my house. I live in the canyon, so we just run. He runs my ass up and down the hill."

Ashton Kutcher is currently the highest paid actor on U.S. television after taking over from Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men. Sheen, who suffered a largely public meltdown, was the previous No.1 with earnings of around $1.44 million per episode. Though Kutcher doesn't command that, he still pulls in enough to see off rival Mark Harmon.

Material Girls Review

Weak
I confess a fascination -- perhaps unhealthy by definition -- with the actress/singer/empire Hilary Duff. She's in no way a better actress than, say, Lindsay Lohan and her career doesn't have the occasional bursts of quality that dot Lohan's resume. But Duff has a puppy-ish goofiness and, more to the point, bold-outlined limitations on her acting abilities, that render her weirdly endearing. Most of her post-Disney movies have failed even as cheesy guilty pleasures, but I keep Netflixing those DVDs anyway, hoping for the best.

That kind of relativism -- hoping for the best possible Hilary Duff movie -- is what got me to see Material Girls in a theater (it wasn't screened for critics). It's a Duff movie through and through: Hilary's mom produced it, and her sister Haylie gets second billing. (Casting her less famous real-life sister as her movie sidekick is sweetly misguided, and therefore vintage Duff.) Hil-Hil and Hay-Hay play Tanzie and Ava Marchetta, spoiled heiresses whose cosmetics empire is threatened, landing them in the poorhouse. The opportunity for cheap culture-clash humor (see entitled rich girls adjust to poverty!) and cheap shots at Paris and Nicky Hilton (or even a fictional rehash of The Simple Life), combined with the participation of director Martha Coolidge (an expert in blonde bubbliness by virtue of having made Valley Girl years ago) makes Material Girls a candidate for a teenybopping good time. The peculiar, slapdash movie they made instead nonetheless eclipses most of the star's previous pre-teen pictures, because it finally drives a Duff vehicle into the land of beguilingly awful.

Cheaper By The Dozen 2 Review

Bad
You've seen this before. Steve Martin as the nervous parent awaiting a baby delivery. Steve Martin reluctantly acknowledging his daughter's independence. Steve Martin falling victim to kids' pranks. From Parenthood to the Father of the Bride remake and sequel to 2003's Cheaper by the Dozen to, uh, last week's Yours, Mine and Ours, the man who began his career as a brilliant, absurdist comic has defined himself as a soft, weepy dad, running through a thousand family-film clichés. Cheaper by the Dozen 2 rehashes it all with no presence of originality or humor.

Martin reprises the role of Tom Baker, father of twelve and husband to wife Kate (the sparkling, grounded Bonnie Hunt). In an effort to bond the family one final time before grandkids are born and chickens fly the coop, Tom cloyingly convinces the clan to vacation at their old lakefront haunt. There, they meet their nemeses: the clean-cut white-teethed Murtaugh family led by perfectionist papa Jimmy, played by the painfully underutilized Eugene Levy.

Eminem Praises Posterior Of Pop Star Hilary Duff

Eminem Hilary Duff

Teenage singer Hilary Duff was amused to find herself - and her butt - the subject a string of lyrics in Eminem's single, 'Ass Like That'. In the single, Eminem raps about his appreciation for the derrières of a collection of female stars, including Jessica Simpson, Gwen Stefani, and the Olsen Twins: Mary-Kate and Ashley.

Related: Hilary Duff Claims Her And Mike Comrie's Split "Wasn't A Rash Decision"

In one verse, Duff's behind becomes the topic of his rap, in which he says: "Hilary Duff is not quite old enough / So I ain't never seen a butt like that / Maybe next year I'll say ass and she'll make my pee pee go doing, doing, doing."

The Lizzie McGuire Movie Review

Weak

In Disney Channel's big-screen spin-off "The Lizzie McGuire Movie," 'tweenybopper star Hilary Duff does little more than giggle (at cute boys) and gasp (at Roman tourist attractions) her way through a wholly contrived trip to Italy, where she just happens to meet a harmlessly sexy bubble-gum pop star, who just happens to have had a falling out with his singing partner/girlfriend, who just happens to look exactly like Lizzie.

Persuaded by Paulo (Yani Gellman) to pose as Isabella (also played by Duff in a black wig and an embarrassingly phony accent) during an upcoming awards show, Lizzie spends her whole class trip to Rome feigning illness (to fool the chaperone), sneaking off to rehearse with Paulo and clinging to him adorably as he shows her the picturesque sights from the back of a Vespa.

Populated by stock characters from the TV show (clueless parents, bratty little brother, catty in-crowd nemesis, sexless best guy-friend who secretly pines for Lizzie) and driven largely by invented circumstance (the film opens with Lizzie's junior high school "graduation"), there's precious little creative effort made here, save a few animated asides from Lizzie's cartoon-character conscience and the enjoyably acidic performance of stocky, plucky Alex Borstein ("Mad TV") as Miss Ungermeyer, the class chaperone and tour guide.
