He may be 73, but Harrison Ford can still crack a whip.
Disney have announced that a fifth INDIANA JONES movie is on the way, with Harrison Ford back as the whip-wielding archaeologist. While rumours of a new Indiana Jones movie have been around for years, many had thought that a younger actor such as Chris Pratt would take over the role, but it seems 73-year-old Ford is ready for one more Indy adventure.
Harrison Ford is coming back as Indiana Jones.
But it’s not just Ford who will be back, Steven Spielberg will also once again be in the director’s chair. Announcing the news, Disney said: “Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019.”
“It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.” The film will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, who worked on the franchise’s previous four outings.

Last year Kennedy told The Hollywood Reporter that a fifth movie was in the works, but they just needed to figure out a timeframe. “We're all trying to figure out when the right time is to step back in. Harrison really wants to do it; Steven really wants to do it,” she said.
“We've kicked around a couple of story ideas, but beyond that, I don't know yet. I think there will be one, we'll certainly move forward with Indy. But right now, everybody's just focused on Star Wars.” The new film looks to be the first without the involvement of George Lucas, who sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012.

The fifth Indiana Jones film, which is slated for a July 2019 release, will come 11 years after Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which starred Ford alongside Shia LaBeouf as his son Mutt Williams. While critics were generally positive towards the film, audiences had a much more mixed reaction.
News of a fifth Indiana Jones film comes at an interesting time for Ford, who revisited his other iconic character, Han Solo, in Star Wars The Force Awakens last year. The actor seems to be on a bit of a nostalgia trip lately as he’s also due to start work on the sequel to Blade Runner later this year, reprising his role as Rick Deckard. Blade Runner 2 is scheduled for release in January 2018.
