Harrison Ford's son Ben has thanked fans for their well wishes and revealed the Star Wars icon is "on the mend" following his horrific plane crash on Thursday (05Mar15).

The veteran actor reportedly sustained a broken pelvis and ankle after his vintage aircraft suffered engine trouble shortly after take off at Santa Monica Airport in California.

He crash landed on a golf course and was admitted to a nearby hospital, where he remains in a stable condition under doctors' care.

The star's son, Ben Ford, has since updated fans on his father's wellbeing, insisting the 72 year old is grateful for the outpouring of support as he continues his recovery process.

Taking to Twitter on Saturday (07Mar15), Ben writes, "We want (to) thank you all for your concern. Dad has the best care possible, (is) on the mend and of strong mind body & spirit."

Ford is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.

A probe into the plane crash has since been launched by the Federal Aviation Authority (Faa) and the National Transportation Safety Board (Ntsb) to determine what caused the accident.
