Brockie - known to fans Oderus Urungus - was found at approximately 6.53pm on Sunday evening (March 23, 2014). "When officers arrived, they found David M. Brockie, 50, deceased inside the home," a statement read. Police are not suspecting foul play though officials are still waiting on the Medical Examiner's office to determine the cause of death.

Brockie formed GWAR in 1984 and was the last original member of the horror-inspired group. Known for its outlandish other-worldly characters like 'Beefcake the Mighty' and 'Balsac the Jaws of Death', the band entertained fans with their satirical scenes of blood and gore.

The band - known fondly by fans as Scumdog of the Universe - have released twelve studio albums including 1994's This Toilet Earth and 2001's Violence Has Arrived.

The death was first reported by Style Weekly, a Richmond arts newspaper, which spoke with former GWAR bassist Mike Bishop.

"Dave was one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I've known," he said. "He was brash sometimes, always crass, irreverent, he was hilarious in every way. But he was also deeply intelligent and interested in life, history, politics and art."

Dave Brockie's death comes only three years after the passing of GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot - or Flattus Maximus to his fans. He died of a heart attack while the band were touring in North Dakota.

We here at Contactmusic.com send our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Dave Brockie.
