Glenn Close and David Shaw have divorced after nine years of marriage.

The 68-year-old actress and venture capitalist David, her third husband, ended their marriage quietly over the summer, with Glenn moving back to New York City while David remained at their home in Maine.

Glenn's spokesperson told the New York Post's Page Six column, ''they are divorced'', adding that the marriage ended this summer.

A source close to the pair added: ''Glenn and David have been telling friends over the summer they are divorcing, and he'll remain living in Maine while Glenn moves back to New York full-time. They've been separated for some time, and things are amicable between them.''

Glenn, who has one daughter, Annie Maude Starke, 27, with her ex John Starke, has been married twice before; to James Marlas and Cabot Wade.

Speaking previously about her first and second marriages, Glenn said: ''Too many women define themselves in terms of a man. In my marriages I was like an amoeba. Men blossom under the nurturing of a good woman, while women don't often get that benefit from a man. I think of men and women as two different species. Katharine Hepburn said they should live next door and visit each other once in a while. Not a bad idea.''

However, professionally Glenn is doing better than ever and it has just been announced that in April 2016 she will reprise her role as Norma Desmond in 'Sunset Boulevard' to make her onstage debut in London's West End.
