Girls' new single, My Ma, will be limited to 1000 copies on its release on May 22nd, 2012. It is the fourth single from their second album, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, which was released in September 2011.
The video for My Ma follows the day in the life of a middle aged woman as she looks back on her past career as a glamorous actress, performing in shows such as A Streetcar Named Desire. As she goes about her daily business, she sometimes practises pulling different facial expressions.
Christopher Owens and Chet JR White formed Girls in 2007 and rose to notoriety with their debut single Lust For Life. Their debut album was called Album and was released in 2009 on True Panther Sounds. It received positive reviews and earned places in many 'Best Albums of 2009' lists.
Their second album, the aforementioned Father, Son, Holy Ghost, has been Girls' most successful to date. It peaked at number 37 on the Billboard 200 and entered the top 10 on the US Independent Albums. In the UK, it reached number 20 on the UK Indie Chart. Like Album, Father, Son, Holy Ghost received positive reviews and featured in many 'Best Albums of 2011' lists.
Girls also released an EP, Broken Dreams Club, in 2010.
