Gerard Butler needed to take a world trip to recharge after finishing 'Olympus Has Fallen'.

The 43-year-old actor was worn out after shooting the political action thriller and so headed to Italy, Thailand, Columbia and Shanghai to get a rest and come back to Hollywood raring to go.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz, he said: ''When I'm in places like Thailand and Shanghai I think, 'I could just stay here', because it's great to get away from everything. Not that I don't love what I do but even if you love your job you still want to get away. A rest is as good as a change as they say.''

In 'Olympus Has Fallen', Butler's character, secret service agent Mike Banning, has to save the President - played by Aaron Eckhart - from terrorists who have captured the White House.

Even though the film is set in America, the Scottish star believes it's plot and the gripping action will resonate with audiences everywhere.

He said: ''The themes of terrorism concern all of us. Whether you love or hate your leaders you still don't want them harmed.''
