Marvellous, about the life of Stoke City Football Club kit man Neil Baldwin, claimed the titles of Single Drama and Supporting Actress for Gemma Jones, but its star, Toby Jones, missed out on the Leading Actor award to The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies' Jason Watkins. He also beat Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch and The Missing's James Nesbitt to the top prize.

The two-part show, written by The Queen screenwriter Peter Morgan, won a second accolade for best Mini-Series.

Popular variety show Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway was another two-time winner, scoring Entertainment Programme and Entertainment Performance for hosts Anthony MCPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

Meanwhile, Georgina Campbell was named Leading Actress for Murdered by My Boyfriend, The Honourable Woman's Stephen Rea landed Supporting Actor, Drama Series went to Happy Valley and Detectorists earned the Situation Comedy honour.

True Detective fought off competition from House of Cards, The Good Wife and Orange Is the New Black to take home the International gong.

Other winners at the London ceremony included Coronation Street (Soap and Continuing Drama) and Matt Berry (Toast of London) and Jessica Hynes (W1A), who claimed the Actor and Actress in a Comedy Programme, respectively.

Sherlock won the fan-voted Radio Times Audience Award, and The Island With Bear Grylls was named best Reality and Constructed Factual show.
