The Lethal Weapon veteran and his pro partner Anna Trebunskaya received the lowest amount of votes in the ballroom competition and he became the fourth celebrity booted from the programme.

Busey, whose last dance on the show was in homage to his Oscar-nominated role in The Buddy Holly Story, was disappointed with the elimination but insisted his spirit in the show would carry on.

"45 years of doing show business, I've never expected this. It's been a beautiful experience," he said. "I've learned things I had in myself that I could I could emphasise on and be better with and from and in. The fact that I've been eliminated is false. My spirit with Anna as a partnership will remain in this room throughout the show. So you won't see us dancing but we'll be there."

Still in this season's race are stars including Bindi Irwin, Nick Carter and singer Tamar Braxton, who are on top of the current leaderboard.
