25-year old Battle was best known as a member of the girl group G.R.L. which made it to the finals of The X-Factor US in 2011. Rumours about her death began when music producer posted a picture of Battle on his Instagram account and added the caption "I'm still in shock and in disbelief to have confirmed the death of my childhood friend Simone Battle."

The tragic news was confirmed when Reign Deer Entertainment, Robin Antin, Kemosabe Records, and RCA Records issued a jointed statement in which they confirmed Battle's death and described her as "an exceptional young talent and human being."

Whilst Battle's cause of death was not initially revealed, it appears she may have committed suicide by hanging herself. TMZ first reported the claims citing police sources. It appears she was discovered at around 8.30am on Friday (5th September) at her Los Angeles home.

Battle's suicide has come as a shock for her family and friends who were not aware she was depressed or showing an inclination to self harm. Battle's father, speaking to the same entertainment website, explained how he communicated with his daughter every day. He mentioned how they had not spoken on the phone for a few weeks but had text regularly. Although he was not aware of Battle being mentally ill, he admitted "It's possible she may have had an invisible disability."

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday (7th September) and further details are likely to be released within the next two weeks.
