Former Fugees star Pras Michel is suing the director of his 2009 documentary for allegedly failing to hand over the footage after the project wrapped.

The rapper hired Marshall Tyler to help him shoot Paper Dreams, about Somali pirates off the East African coast, but alleges the filmmaker has not turned over the scenes they shot.

He has filed a lawsuit demanding Tyler return the footage, or hand back the $70,000 (£44,000) Michel invested to cover filming and travel expenses.

However, a spokesperson for Tyler insists his client is the rightful owner, telling, "Pras is trying to assert ownership on material that Marshall owns the copyright to."
