Last month we learned that Hermione Norris would be starring in an episode of Doctor Who, now it looks as though Frank Skinner get his own guest role as Peter Capaldi takes those famous reigns from Matt Smith in his first series as The Doctor.

Skinner said he was “beyond excited” about his upcoming cameo. "It's no secret that Frank's been pitching vigorously to get into Doctor Who for a while," said the show's executive producer, Steven Moffat. "He's been volunteering to be 'third monster on the left' as long as I've been in this job," he joked, according to The BBC.

Channel 4's Benefits Street has sparked a public outcry like never seen before after its first episode aired last week. The programme focusses on one street in the Birmingham town of Winson Green where a high number of residents receive benefit payments.

The residents of the street have argued that they have been misrepresented in the show which Channel 4 describes as a "sympathetic, human and objective portrayal of how people are coping with continuing austerity and cuts in benefits." A petition on Change.org has garnered thousands of signatures ordering the channel to take the 5-part show off-air and for a donation to be made to a relevant charity for 'the harm caused."

Frank Skinner has revealed he turned down an offer to voice over the Channel 4 documentary 'Benefits Street'.

The Birmingham native didn't want to degrade anyone who is a resident where he grew up.

Skinner told The Birmingham Mail, he didn't want to be "involved in something where I'm derogatory about people from Birmingham".

The Room 101 host grew up in Oldbury, just outside the city, and was wary of how the show planned to present local people. Skinner was approached to do the voiceover for the series, which purports to explore the "community spirit" in Winson Green's James Turner Street.
