It's not only his lyrics that are intelligent, Frank Ocean speaks in a system of cleverly and swiftly thought out analogies.

Talking to the Guardian about whether awards are important to him, after receiving 6 Grammy nominations, as well as topping the Guardian's list of albums for 2012, he said: "It's like a player in any ball league... you come up in these systems of organisation, and you can hate the league but, at the end of the day, you can't hate the championship. Music industry people... that's the game I came up in. The Grammys are like the championship, and that's cool." Adding, "I'm about being the best... if you're gonna be playing this video game, you might as well win, right? F***, yeah."

The Guardian's writer notes that he writes very cinematically, but in saying that seems to have completely bypassed where cinema comes from- stories. And stories is what Frank moves on to from that comment: "the storytelling, that's where you can really paint pictures. You can't do it with a melody or a sound or a rhythm or a chord progression. The storytelling part of it is the most interesting and challenging part of the whole process for me." He admits that lyric writing and stories it the best part of the process for him, "it's the more interesting part about making music for me," He says, "So much so that I might not make another album. I might just write a novel next."

Judging on the strength of his writing abilities that we've already witnessed, both in his lyrics as well as the titbits of he puts on his Tumblr every now and again, including an engaging piece about his love for a man, a novel would be incredible. But he also wants to design a building in Stockholm, so who knows what's next for him.

And while Frank tops not only the Guardian's top albums, but also HMV's poll of polls, who does he think has made the year's best music? "Norah Jones made a really good record." He said, "I thought Kendrick Lamar made a cool record. I thought John Mayer made a really good record. Speaking of new records, you know who needs to make a new album? I think Fleetwood Mac needs to make a new album. I think so. I think they do." Absolutely, good choices.
