The ballerina, who made history earlier this year (15) by becoming the acclaimed dance troupe's first female African-American principal, has teamed up with writer Tracy Oliver to produce a series centred on a "young, hip, diverse group of aspiring dancers as they fiercely compete for places in the American Ballet Theatre company".

According to Deadline.com, Oliver, who is currently working on co-writing the screenplay to Barbershop 3, has a background in dance, music, and theatre, and was already planning on creating a TV show set in the arts world.

The site reports Oliver pitched the idea to Copeland, and she agreed to join forces right away on the as-yet-untitled show.

Copeland has expanded her credits beyond the ballet world in recent months, including her Broadway debut in the musical On The Town in August (15).
