Foo Fighters star Dave Grohl and his bandmates tackled charity phenomenon the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in dramatic fashion on Tuesday (19Aug14) when they recreated the pivotal pig blood-dump scene from Carrie for the cause.

Grohl, dressed in a prom dress and wearing a tiara, introduced the skit, which was interspersed with scenes from director Brian de Palma's 1976 movie, before nominating Jack Black, John Travolta and Carrie creator Stephen King for the ice bucket challenge.

The rocker then stood next to prom king and bandmate Taylor Hawkins and celebrated his crowning moment as pals backstage plotted to tip the bucket of freezing water over the singer.

Just like Sissy Spacek in the King film, Grohl went from miserable object of fun to demonic maniac intent on revenge after the contents of the bucket was dumped over his head. And Hawkins also suffered in the skit - his character was knocked unconscious by the falling bucket.

Country star Zac Brown nominated the Foo Fighters for the fundraising stunt, which has helped raise money and awareness for the ALS Association.
