"We're not far from my grandma's house," frontman Grohl, who grew up in Warren, told the audience, ”It's just up the road, actually.” Throughout the set Grohl entertained the audience with stories from his past, including a tale about an uncle who used to work at a shoe store in the same plaza.

The Foos also had a special release to mark the annual celebration, Songs From the Laundry Room, a collection of the band’s early demos. During their gig the band played ‘Alone + Easy Target’ and ‘Big Me’ which feature on the vinyl, as well as Kim Wilde cover ‘Kids in America’.

"I know we're in a strip mall," Grohl told the enthusiastic crowd "[But] let's pretend this is a stadium!” Along with lesser known tracks the band also treated the audience to fan favourites ‘My Hero’ and ‘Everlong’.

In February the singer was named the ambassador for this year’s Record Store Day, which sees music fans all over the world celebrate their love of vinyl. Describing his love for indie record stores, Grohl wrote a heartfelt blog on the Record Store day website after being named its ambassador, where he described how music had shaped his life.

"I believe that the power of the record store to inspire is still alive and well, and that their importance to our next generation of musicians is crucial,” Grohl wrote. “Take an afternoon (and some hard earned lawn mowing money) and please support them. You never know, it might change your life forever, too."
