German director Nikolai Müllerschon brings us the story of Baron Manfred Von Richthofen who is widely regarded as the greatest fighter pilot of all time. Richthofen (Matthias Schweighofer - Valkyrie) enjoys a stupendous career in the German fighter division racking up kill after kill, earning his trademark bright red plane and his 'Flying Circus' squadron conquests eventually make him a hero in Germany, and someone to be feared by enemy forces.

Blind to the true horrors of war due to his ever rising fame, it is not until he assists enemy pilot Arthur Roy Brown (Joseph Fiennes - Shakespeare In Love) by pulling him out of the wreckage of a plane that he himself shot down, that he starts to question his aerial actions and realises that it is not just a big game, it is very real.

After he becomes injured himself, French nurse Kate Otersdorf (Lena Headey - 300, Terminator: 'The Sarah Connor Chronicles') takes him to a field hospital and shows him the numerous victims of war. He becomes disillusioned, but achingly loyal to his fellow men he knows he has gone too far to stop flying now, although now aware of the reality that even The Red Baron could be shot down on his next mission...
