From director Jason Connery come The Philly Kid, a tale of corruption, murder and professional fighting. Dillon McCabe (Chatham) is the titular Philly Kid who, on the same night he was crowned an NCAA wrestling champion, becomes involved in the killing of a police officer. He is sentenced to fifteen years in prison, enough time to contemplate his actions and vow not to fight again. Ten years on and Dillon is paroled back onto the streets on New Orleans, returning to his run-down Baton Rouge neighbourhood.
Before he can pick up the pieces of his life, one of his dearest friends finds himself in a spot of trouble with a vicious loan shark, with Dillon looking more and more like the only hope for the friend. To get the money to help him, Dillon must return to fighting yet must take leave from his traditional method of fighting to cater to new tastes. Swapping wrestling for mixed martial arts, he finds he still has what it takes to make it to the top as he quickly and brutally fights his way to the top again. However he soon finds himself in more trouble than ever and after three vicious triumphs he discovers that his real opponent doesn't exist in the ring, but exists as the corrupt system that requires him to do the impossible: lose.
