Mahmud Nasir is a loving father and husband he's a dedicated but somewhat relaxed Muslim, he loves his faith but when it comes to following the strict rules, sometimes things slip. When his mother passes away, Mahmud has the painstaking job of clearing his mothers belongings, when he stumbles across his birth certificate he can barely believe his eyes when he discovers he's adopted. A visit to the records office not only corroborates with his birth certificate he also finds out his birth name Solly Shimshillewitz! Mahmud Nasir is by birth a Jew!

Following the discovery of Mahmud's past he finds himself with a huge identity crisis. Feeling like he's unable to turn to his wife, family and close friends Mahmud confides in Lenny, a drunk who works as a cab driver and just so happens to be a Jew. Lenny agrees to give lessons to Mahmud to teach him Jewish way and hopefully clear up his identity issues.
