Peter Parker, at first glance, seems like a normal high schooler. However, he is a nerd and gets picked on by other students. He lives with his aunt and uncle, after his parents abandoned him as a young boy. And the weirdest fact of them all - he got bit by a radioactive spider one day whilst exploring a science lab, which gave him super powers.
Peter doesn't know what to make of these powers at first - he can shoot white stuff that resembles webbing from his fingers. A few late excursions down back alleys in the city, though, soon confirm that he can use the webbing to grab onto objects. He tries this out on skyscrapers, swinging from building to building.
Peter makes himself a red and blue suit and gives himself a new identity: Spiderman. Under this guise, he starts foiling minor crimes. However, Spiderman cannot stay hidden for long and his antics attract the attention of policeman Captain George Stacy, whose daughter Gwen is in a relationship with Peter. Naturally, Peter keeps mum about his identity so as not to arouse the suspicions of George.
Elsewhere, Peter has more pressing problems to face, such as tracking down his parents. He meets a friend of theirs, a scientist called Dr. Curt Connors, who may have information regarding their whereabouts. He is working on a formula designed to change the lives of millions. However, it goes horribly wrong and Peter is forced to put his family problems aside and don his Spiderman suit to stop a powerfully dangerous villain.
