South Park - Episode 100 - I'm a Little Bit Country

“Oh my God…it’s the 100th episode. Those Bastards!”

With season seven currently in full swing it’s time for fans of the controversial cult hit to celebrate the episodic centenary of a show which has consistently covered new ground and broken boundaries in areas where other animators have feared to tread.

With over 100 episodes of bleeped out bad behaviour from Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman, the kids of South Park have taken part in the most bizarre storylines to have gripped television. Including everything from the discovery that Saddam Hussein is stock piling weapons of mass destruction in Heaven, Cartman’s confrontation with Osama Bin Laden and a special musical rendition of Great Expectations set in London. Despite the difficulty of making each episode as outlandish as the last, the show has lost nothing of its ability to come up with the craziest situations. As season seven showed with the opening episode when it was discovered that Earth was in fact a reality TV show on the brink of being cancelled.

The show has also managed to develop it’s own catchphrase with ‘Oh my God, they’ve killed Kenny. Those Bastards’. Kenny’s famous deaths have seen him hit by the MIR space station, crushed by a particularly powerful serve in a school game of dodge-ball and even touched by the grim reaper himself.

It’s in true South Park style then that the show marks it’s 100th episode with I’m A Little Bit Country. Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman join some anti-war protesters because it’s a free pass out of school for the day. Their simple plan to protest their way out of class goes wrong when they find themselves in the middle of the two opposing sides of the war issue. Their teacher, Mr. Garrison, an extreme supporter of the war, retaliates by assigning them book reports on the country's founding fathers. Meanwhile, Cartman induces his own flashback to avoid studying and travels back to 1776 where he plays a role in the historic signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Full of the usual close to the knuckle humour look out for the anti-war banners held by the boys and listen closely to the

episodes musical contribution for some contemporary fun poking at America’s attitudes to war.

South Park has been a talking point for over six years, continuing to cause a stir in the world of celebrity with its no holds barred, non-pandering approach to parody. The list of those given the South Park treatment include Elton John, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, each voiced by Matt Stone, Trey Parker and the team, giving them the freedom to take the characters in their own direction. And now J-Lo and Ben Affleck are the next in line to be given the make-over of a life time in the season seven episode entitled Fat Butt and Pancake Head, which promises to be every bit as flattering as the title suggests.

That doesn’t mean to say that South Park has been without those willing to lend their voices to the show, with contributors including stars such as George Clooney, Jennifer Anniston, Henry Winkler and Malcolm McDowell, not afraid to endorse a show willing to take risks.
