Oscar is a young chimpanzee with a playful attitude to life. His family travel through the African forests, with Oscar and his siblings treating their environment as a giant playground. Life is good for Oscar - until one day, when his family are confronted by a rival gang of chimps. Suddenly, Oscar is orphaned and left to fend for himself, until a rather surprising ally comes to help. He adopts Oscar and the little chimp's life is changed forever.
Chimpanzee was shot over a period of three years in the tropical jungles of Uganda and the Ivory Coast. It is directed by Alastair Fothergill and Mark Linfield, who have also worked on the Disneynature films African Cats and Earth respectively.
The film is distributed by Disneynature, who are well known for other documentaries such as Earth and African Cats. Disneynature have also distributed the French documentaries Oceans; The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos and Hidden Beauty: A Love Story That Feeds the Earth.
