Cbeebies is rebooting Teletubbies for the small-screen with a new star-studded cast including Fearne Cotton and Jim Broadbent. Actress Jane Horrocks will voice the character of the new 'tubby phone' - a mobile gadget that will transport Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po into the modern day.

Broadbent is probably best known as Professor Slughorn in Harry Potter while Cotton is one of the most popular DJs on Radio 1. The new show will be narrated by the stand-up comedian Daniel Rigby - who can be seen in those slightly annoying BT broadband ads.

Producers said the new series - set to air later this year - will feature the same characters as the original but would have a "refreshed and contemporary look". The Teletubbies will still have antennas on their heads and TV screens on their stomachs.

Broadbent, Horrocks and Cotton add their name to an illustrious list of stars who have voiced children's television shows. Theatre great Derek Jacobi became the narrator of In The Night Garden while The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr voiced the first two seasons of Thomas & Friends. He also played Mr Conductor in the PBS children's television series Shining Time Station.

The Scottish actor and X-Men star James McAvoy recently read the CBeebies bedtime story.

Broadbent has numerous projects on the go, including Nicholas Hytner's movie adaptation of Alan Bennett's Lady in the Van with Maggie Smith. Dominic Cooper and James Corden co-star.
