Example was the most star-struck he's even been when Jack Nicholson bought him a whisky.

The 33-year-old rapper - whose real name is Elliot Gleave - has revealed the 78-year-old movie legend spotted him sat in a bar in Los Angeles on his own and took pity on him and got him a drink.

Although he was thrilled to get a drink with his hero, Nicholson didn't invite Example to sit with him.

Example said: ''I was in Soho House in LA, and I was sat at the bar waiting for someone and he bought me a whiskey. He was there by himself as well. Bit legendary.

''And then he walked off to go and meet someone somewhere, and I followed him, and he was like, 'You're not coming with me. I felt sorry for you.' ''

However, the 'Changed The Way You Kissed Me' hitmaker went on to insist - despite the name - his new single 'Whisky Story' isn't about the 'The Shining' star, as he thought the story was too far-fetched for his fans to be able to connect with it.

In an interview on BBC Radio 1, Example said: ''I wanted to make a song about me and Jack Nicholson, but I didn't think many people would relate to it. I think it's quite niche.''
