Badu used her opening monologue at Sunday night’s awards to tell Azalea, “what you doin' is definitely not rap.”
Erykah Badu was the host for the 2015 Soul Train Awards on Sunday evening and the veteran singer certainly wasn't shy about voicing her opinion on one Iggy Azalea. In her opening monologue, Badu threw some serious shade Azalea’s way, telling the ‘Fancy’ hitmaker, “what you doin' is definitely not rap.”
Erykah Badu hosted the 2015 Soul Train Awards on Sunday evening.
"As you know, I am the queen of neo soul and people say I have this common effect on rappers: that I make them change gods and wear crochet hats, shoulder pads," Badu began her monologue.
"So they have banned me from all of the hip-hop awards with a sign saying 'Erykah Badu, leave our rappers alone.’" Badu then proceeded to pretend to make phone calls to certain artists, one of which was Iggy Azalea.
“Uh yes? Who is this? Iggy Azalea?" Badu said. "Yeah, hey. Oh no no no no, you can come, 'cause what you doin' is definitely not rap.” Azalea is yet to comment back on Badu’s on joke. At the ceremony Badu also performed alongside Chrisette Michele, K-Ci Hailey, Lalah Hathaway and Eddie Lever.
The night’s big winners were The Weeknd who picked up R&B/soul male artist and album of the year for Beauty Behind the Madness and Mark Ronson's ‘Uptown Funk’ featuring Bruno Mars which was named both song of the year and video of the year. Up and comer Jidenna also took home the award for best new artist.
