Crooner Engelbert Humperdinck was horrified to discover his old home THE PINK PALACE was demolished - after buyers promised him it would remain a historical landmark.

The RELEASE ME singer lived in the seven-bedroom Beverly Hills mansion for years, which formerly belonged to late blonde bombshell Jayne Mansfield and MAMAS AND PAPAS singer 'MAMA' CASS ELLIOTT.

After selling the house - complete with heart-shaped swimming pool - developers raised the building to the ground.

Humperdinck fumes, "I sold that house a year ago. They knocked the Pink Palace down, knocked it flat. They told me they were going to renovate it and keep it as an old Hollywood home. But they don't care about history."

The home was a regular stop-off of Tinseltown tours and according to some reports, Mansfield's ghost had been haunting the mansion since her tragic death in a car accident in 1967.

Humperdinck explains, "I used to smell her perfume. People are going to think I'm crazy if you write this. All houses are haunted.

"There are certain people who can feel the spirits. It's sad that the house was flattened. Where will Jayne's ghost go now?"
