Emma Thompson has decided her daughter should be educated at home.
The 55-year-old actress and her husband, actor and producer Greg Wise, have decided to withdraw their 15-year-old daughter Gaia from her £6,000-a-term school so she can be taught in the garden of their West Hampstead home in London, where they've built a classroom.
Greg reflected: ''School isn't for everyone.
''She loves learning and she's terribly focused and hardworking, but she didn't like the sausage factory of formal education.''
He observed that young people are currently being taught subjects that will prove to be irrelevant to the jobs they go on to fill.
He told The Times newspaper: ''So what are we teaching them? I think really we should just teach Latin and free-form dance.''
Emma and Greg's other child, Tindyebwa Agaba, a former child soldier from Rwanda who they informally adopted when he was 16, graduated from Exeter University with a 2:1 in politics in 2011.
Tindyebwa, now 28, currently works as a human rights activist and aid worker.
In recent times, Emma has withdrawn from Hollywood to spend more time with her children.
She explained: ''A year off was my birthday present to myself. I didn't actually act or write. I was just a mum.
''I taught drama at my daughter's school, cooked meals and had fun.
''I highly recommend others to do the same if they can afford it.''
