Emily Blunt has claimed she is ''disappointed'' with the alleged ban Cannes Film Festival has put on women wearing flat shoes.
Emily Blunt says it's ''disappointing'' women have been banned from Cannes Film Festival for not wearing high-heels.
The 'Into The Woods' actress has spoken out after it was claimed a group of women wearing rhinestone-embellished flat shoes were turned away from a film screening for not wearing heels.
Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of her new film 'Sicario', she said: ''I think everyone should wear flats, to be honest.
''We shouldn't wear high heels anymore. That's just my point of view. I prefer to wear Converse sneakers. That's very disappointing.''
However, despite claiming she was unimpressed with the policy, the 32-year-old star was wearing a pair of stilettos at the time but later changed into a pair of flats for the afterparty.
The festival is currently facing a backlash from fans protesting against what they see as a sexist dress-code policy after a group of women in their 50s were reported to have been turned away from the gala screening of Todd Haynes' 'Carol' for wearing flat shoes, even though some of them were said to have medical issues.
However, the event's director Thierry Fremaux has rubbished the allegations on Twitter, writing: ''The rumour saying the festival insists on high heels for women on the red carpet is unfounded.''
But despite his comments, a spokesperson for the festival told Screen Daily that while they refuse to comment on the alleged incident, it is mandatory for women to wear high heels at red carpet screenings.
