On Sunday, during the official chart update, Emeli Sandé etched herself into the history books by scoring her 63rd week in the top ten of the UK Album Chart, a feat that made her debut album Our Version of Events the longest-serving debut in the top ten in chart history. Emeli smashed the previous record held by The Beatles, whose debut Please, Please Me held strong in the top ten for 62 consecutive weeks.

The Scottish singer, who performed at both the opening and closing ceremonies at the Olympics, kicked off a year of unprecedented success when Our Version of Events was released last February, that saw her scoop up won the best British female artist and best album awards at the BRITs as well as her Olympic performances. In that time, the singer has also claimed three No. 1 singles in the UK with 'Read All About It' featuring Professor Green, 'Next to Me,' and her collaboration with Labrinth, 'Beneath Your Beautiful.'

The announcement of Sandé's achievements yesterday (April 29) provoked an overwhelmed response from the 26-year-old former medical student, who is quoted as saying "It feels quite surreal to even have your name mentioned in the same sentence as The Beatles," adding, "For a record to stay there for so long it means that people have connected with it so that's how I'm enjoying celebrating this record."

Can Emeli break America next?

The singer doesn't look ready to sit back and enjoy her spoils just yet either, as she is now intent on taking over America, where she is still relatively unknown. She said recently, "There's different formats over there [in America] so you have to understand the market, the people, you really have to take into account how massive the place is .. It's a brand new adventure and it's chapter two of this whole big thing."
