This came in response to Gallagher's latest broadside aimed at modern pop stars, on whom fame is apparently "wasted".
Earlier this week, 48 year old Gallagher had taken aim at the new generation of chart acts – as history tells us he is prone to do from time to time – telling Esquire in a lengthy rant that everybody except Kanye West was boring and didn’t deserve the trappings that come with their fame and fortune.
Ellie Goulding has said that Noel Gallagher actually quite likes her music
“Fame's wasted on these c***s today," he moaned. "Bar Kanye. You watch him on the MTV Awards and you think, ‘You can f***** stay, you’re alright,” he said. “Who gives a s*** what f****** One Direction do? C*********s, all of them in rehab by the time they’re 30. Who gives a s*** what Ellie Goulding is up to? Really?... It blows my f****** mind. Nobody cares!”
But 28 year old Goulding told The Sun in response to her name appearing in that broadside that Gallagher was secretly a fan of her music, and was convinced that what he said was part of a publicity stunt. Much more likely that Gallagher was pressed into a rant by another journalist simply wanting amusing, quotable copy, but we’ll let that slide.
“Noel came up to me at the Brit Awards two years ago and said, ‘I love your music — but don’t f**king tell anyone’,” she revealed. Goulding, who released her third album Delirium today (November 13th), is sure that most such celebrity ‘feuds’ are just media concoctions designed to get people talking, and doesn’t buy into the Taylor Swift v Katy Perry bad blood.
Even though she’s a part of Swift’s ‘squad’ of friends, she doesn’t feel the same way about Perry. “I don’t think there’s anyone who is not a Katy Perry fan,” she argued.
“I saw [Adele] a few months back and we were both talking about the fact our albums are out soon,” she shared. “But I don’t see anyone as competition. I’m just happy for British music. She deserves it.”
