Being a popstar might sound like the idyllic life; money, fame, designer labels, magazine shoots and devoted fans; but in reality it can be one of the most trying of careers. Ellie Goulding opens up about how her busy schedule has affected her sanity, her health and her love life over the last few weeks.

Goulding and Dougie Poynter seemed like the perfect couple when they began dating in 2014, but the music industry has pushed a lot of pressure on them both since them, very nearly tearing them apart last year when they announced that they were taking a break in December. It was shocking news, given the rumours that were circling of their engagement. However, now they're back together as Goulding explains that some things are worth clinging on to no matter how tough things get.

'It was me that pursued him', she said in an interview with Red magazine. 'Before him, I was having a single period and hating all men, saying never again, after a series of things that happened to me. I really, really thought I was going to be single for a long while.'

Goulding has previously dated the likes of Greg James, Calvin Harris, Jeremy Irvine and Skrillex. There were also rumours of a love triangle between One Direction's Niall Horan and Ed Sheeran.

'I met [Dougie] and was like, uh-oh, game over. He was just so nice', she continued. 'So, you know, you don't throw something like that away so easily.'

Nonetheless, it's been a testing start to the year for Goulding. 'A working day will start with a 4am flight and finish at 3am the next day. Sometimes I don't have time to eat in the day', she says. 'I had to pay for everyone to have IV vitamin drips. Can you believe it? Backstage at Alan Carr and we're all sat there on drips.'
