Ellie Goulding, OneRepublic, and Rodney Atkins helped U.S. President Barack Obama kick off the Christmas season in Washington, D.C. by performing a set of holiday tunes at the White House on Thursday (01Dec11).
The artists performed a collection of hits for the leader, his family and a large crowd which had gathered ahead of the city's annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
Obama used the concert and tree lighting to urge Americans to remember those in need and welcome home troops returning from active duty overseas.
He said, "In this season of hope, let's help those who need it most: the homeless, the hungry, the sick and shut-in. In this season of plenty, let's reach out to those who struggle to find work or provide for their families. In this season of generosity, let's give thanks and honour to our troops and our veterans and their families who've sacrificed so much for us."
