ABC anchor Elizabeth Vargas has gone back into rehab to continue her battle against alcohol addiction, she confirmed herself on Sunday. The decision was made while Vargas was on vacation this weekend and she checked herself into the California treatment facility of her own accord. In fact, Vargas sounded incredibly remorseful in the statement she issued afterwards, quoted here via USA Today.

Vargas first enterted rehab in late 2013.

“As so many other recovering alcoholics know, overcoming the disease can be a long and incredibly difficult process. I feel I have let myself, my co-workers and most importantly my family down and for that I am ashamed and sorry,” she explained.

Vargas first made her struggle with alcoholism public, when she checked into a treatment facility last fall. At the time, she did not discuss her stint and it wasn’t until January that she went on record about the addiction and her treatment. In her Good Morning America interview with George Stephanopoulos, Vargas talked about her decision to reach out for help – much like she has done this time around.

“I am. I am an alcoholic,” she said at the time. “It took me a long time to admit that to myself. It took me a long time to admit it to my family, but I am.”

There are no further details about the anchor’s current rehab stint and no words on when she will return to work. We wish her luck in her journey.
