Eddie Redmayne has put to rest the old rumour that he once dated Taylor Swift.

Appearing on Andy Cohen’s ‘Watch What Happens Live’, Redmayne said he and the ‘Shake it Off’ singer never hooked-up, but they did once get to sing together.

“I absolutely can put the rumours to rest,” he told Cohen. "I never went out on a date with Taylor Swift. Although I met Taylor Swift.”

Explaining how they met, the 34-year-old revealed that the singer auditioned for the role as Epinone in Les Misérables, where she would have played Redmayne’s love interest.

“She auditioned for Les Misérables and she was amazing in the audition,” he said.

“We got to sing together, which was a big moment for me. But no, we never went out. She was extraordinary.”

The role eventually went to British actress Samantha Barks.

During his chat with Cohen, Redmayne also discussed why his co-star Anne Hathaway got so much “flak” for her leading role as Fantine in the musical.

“I honestly don’t know, because I think she’s formidable,” Redmayne said.

“I think she was kind of extraordinary in that film. It was an amazing thing because we were doing it live and it was the first time any of us had done it.

“One person would go and sing live for the first time and come and sort of report back, and how it had gone,” he added. “She basically educated the rest of us on how to do it.”
