Brawl In Cell Block 99 Review

Excellent

Filmmaker S. Craig Zahler brought a blast of offbeat creativity to the Western genre two years ago with his freak-out Bone Tomahawk. And he's back now to reinvent the prison movie with this highly stylised, powerfully violent dramatic thriller. It takes the tone of a 1970s exploitation movie, digging into the more emotional sides of the story as the grisliness escalates. And it also gives Vince Vaughn a character unlike anyone he's ever played: beefy, unstoppable and intriguingly sensitive.

He stars as recovering alcoholic Bradley, who lives in upstate New York with his wife Lauren (Jennifer Carpenter). He has just discovered that she's had an affair, so he takes out his rage on her car before stopping for a reasonable discussion about putting their marriage back together. The problem seems to be connected to their lack of money, so he approaches his old friend Gil (Marc Blucas) about taking a job as a drug runner. And the larger cashflow indeed improves their relationship until Bradley is arrested following a massive shootout with the cops. In prison, a mystery man (Udo Kier) tells Bradley that the now-pregnant Lauren will be killed unless he murders someone in the notorious high-security wing at Redleaf Penitentiary, a fortress run by the sadistic warden Tuggs (Don Johnson).

Melanie Griffiths & Antonio Banderas Divorcing - What We Know So Far

Cue the unpleasant tattoo removal! Melanie Griffiths and Antonio Banderas are divorcing and Griffith's heart tattoo of Antonio's name will certainly need to go. Just remember the unfortunate Winona Rider-Johnny Depp 'Wino Forever' debacle. But, besides Griffiths' lack of foresight, why are the couple separating?

Melanie Griffiths and Antonio BanderasMelanie Griffiths and Antonio Banderas are divorcing after 18 years of marriage.

Sources speaking to TMZ, who first broke the news, claim the divorce is amicable. However, Griffiths filed the paperwork and the documents cite irreconcilable differences as the reason for their separation. The 56-year-old actress is also asking for spousal support and joint custody of their daughter Stella. Fortunately, should proceedings take a turn for the worst, custody won't be an issue for long as Stella turns 18 in September. The separation of property may cause some problems as the couple have numerous homes both in the US and in Banderas' native Spain.

The Other Woman Review

Very Good

While the story isn't particularly original, and the movie tends to drift over the top into broad slapstick, this comedy wins us over due to the camaraderie between the characters. Most refreshingly, this is a film about women teaming up rather than scratching each others' eyes out. So it continually catches us off guard in all the right ways.

In Manhattan, lawyer Carly (Cameron Diaz) has finally met the perfect man in Mark (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). But just as their relationship is about to shift into something much more serious, she discovers that he has a wife, Kate (Leslie Mann), in the suburbs. Shocked, Carly and Kate realise that Mark is the person they should be angry at, so they team up to get even. When they discover that he has another mistress, Amber (Kate Upton), they recruit her to their plan as well. And then they find evidence that his business dealings are more than a little dodgy.

While the plot lends itself to a blackly comical approach, director Nick Cassavetes instead keeps everything silly and simplistic, letting the actresses overplay their scenes. Sometimes this results in something rather hilarious, but it also undermines any credibility the story might have. Mann and Coster-Waldau are the most guilty in this sense, chomping madly on the scenery. Instead, it's the way each character works together that brings the situations to life and keeps us laughing. Although a more confident approach to the material would have made the film much stronger.

The Other Woman Trailer

One woman thinks she's on a roll with the first serious boyfriend she's had in months; he's handsome, successful, rich. as well as a total liar. When he ventures off to his home in Connecticut to investigate a 'burst pipe', the woman goes round later to surprise him - only to find that the house is also occupied by his wife. In a bid to talk things over, the wife visits Woman A at her apartment and, before you know it, the girls are at a bar downing shots and generally being best pals. However, things get even more complicated when they discover their man is also seeing yet another woman - a gorgeous busty blonde - and the three cheated women decide to plot revenge. With the wife slipping female hormones into his morning beverages and all three women discovering his fraudulent business secrets, this man is about to realise that having mistresses is a very bad idea.

'The Other Woman' is a new comedy from director Nick Cassavetes ('The Notebook', 'Alpha Dog', 'My Sister's Keeper') which has been written by Melissa Stack ('Tependris Rising') in her full-length film debut. It is the live action film debut of Nicki Minaj (who previously voiced Steffie in 'Ice Age: Continental Drift') and it is set to hit the UK on April 23rd 2014.

Don Johnson Gets $19M In Lawsuit. 'Nash Bridges' Company Settles Actor's Lawsuit

Don Johnson

Don Johnson gets $19M in payout, after years of court battles, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed. The financial feud between the actor and the show’s producers, Rysher Productions has been ingoing since 2010, when Rysher were ordered to pay $23 million to Johnson, in profits from the show and interest, on top of that. Johnson had satisfied the court that he had an agreement to receive 50% of profits from the show but there has been a series of disagreements over the exact amount that Johnson is owed.

Yesterday (February 11, 2013), The Hollywood Reporter reported that Don Johnson received $19 million from Rysher Productions last month. The case was finally brought to a close, after Don Johnson signed a document bringing the dispute to an end. In 2010, it looked as though Don Johnson had a far more lucrative suit as judges originally awarded him a $50 million pay-out.

However, Rysher appealed and that sum was squashed to $15 million. Johnson’s attorneys continued to argue his case. Rysher maintained that the show had been costly to make and insisted that Nash Bridges was $40 million in the red. Eventually, the sum of $19 million was agreed upon and paid to the actor. Case closed.

Django Unchained Review

Excellent

Tarantino takes an unusually comical approach to a provocative topic, and the result is as controversial as expected. And also startlingly hilarious. At its core, this is another revenge-themed thriller, but Tarantino's snappy, constantly surprising aproach spirals out to explore racial issues over the past 150 years with humour, drama and, of course, grisly violence.

Set two years before the American Civil War in 1858 Texas, the story centres on bounty hunter Schultz (Waltz), who offers the slave Django (Foxx) what seems like a fantasy job: to work with him to capture white criminals dead or alive. Usually dead. Sure enough, everyone is shocked to see a black man not only riding a horse but carrying a gun. When Django helps find three notorious outlaw brothers, he earns his freedom, and Schultz then offers to help free Django's enslaved wife (Washington). This involves staging an elaborate sting on her owner, the bloodthirsty Mississippi plantation owner Calvin (DiCaprio), who runs a ring of slaves who fight each other to the death. But Calvin's butler Stephen (Jackson) suspects that something is up.

Waltz and Foxx have terrific chemistry in the central roles, with Waltz's lively intelligence bouncing off Foxx's physical and emotional intensity. This gives the film an underlying drive that keeps us engaged through the blood-soaked violence as well as the more slapstick-style sequences (a KKK raid led by Johnson and Hill feels like a lost sequence from Blazing Saddles). But Tarantino's screenplay is beautifully constructed to even out the tone with exciting action, harrowing nastiness and some darkly involving drama. All while quietly exploring the twisted history of racial relations in America.

Meanwhile in London, the first part in Peter Jackson's new trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, had its royal film performance this week with much of the cast in attendance, including Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett and Ian McKellen, who watched the film alongside Prince William. The film is in cinemas now, with the following chapters scheduled for next Christmas and the summer of 2014.

German bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz is on the hunt for a brutal gang of murderers, the Brittle brothers. His search leads him to the only person who has information on the group, Django, who is a slave living in the deep south of the States. Schultz crosses his path as he finds Django shackled to a group of other slaves who are all being taken to auction. Posing as a dentist, Schultz requests to buy him from his owners. On the owners' refusal, Schultz ruthlessly shoots them to death and takes the slave. The bounty hunter promises to free Django and take him to rescue his wife, Broomhilda, who has been enslaved by a Mississippi plantation owner on the dead or alive capture of the Brittle brothers. On their success, Schultz frees Django as promised but the pair decides to stick together as bounty hunters full time. Their search for Broomhilda leads him to the 'Candyland' plantation owner Calvin Candie who has trainer Ace Woody train slaves to fight each other for sport. Reese Witherspoon Names Baby Tennessee James Toth

Reese Witherspoon Ryan Phillippe Melanie Griffith Don Johnson Joaquin Phoenix

Reese Witherspoon has named her new baby boy Tennessee James, reports The Huffington Post. He was born yesterday (September 27th).

The 36-year-old's third child is guaranteed a shot at acting with a name like that. Witherspoon already has two little ones from her previous marriage with Ryan Phillippe; Ava, 12, and Deacon, 8. Linda Rosenkrantz, co-founder of Nameberry.com, has some explanations behind naming techniques employed by parents. "It's a trend that had its roots starting in the late 1980s," she said," with several celebs picking names from the American West, like Austin, Dallas and Dakota, including Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, whose now grown daughter Dakota is the star of a new sitcom. But lately the trend seems to be heating up and much more widespread." Celebrities seem to be obsessed with choosing never-heard-before names for their offspring, and are looking far and wide for names that fit the bill: "The current trend seems to be really exotic-sounding spots, like Morocco, Egypt and Asia, and states rather than countries or cities -- Alabama, Arizona, Indiana and yes, Tennessee."

Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon made her name in 2001, with her breakout role as Elle Woods in the box office hit Legally Blonde, after bagging a Golden Globe nomination for the critically acclaimed Election. She also garnered critical praise for her performance in Walk The Line alongside Joaquin Phoenix.
