The new TV series of sci-fi classic Doctor Who has enraged fans, who are reportedly plaguing the production staff with violent death threats.

BBC bosses decided to revamp the cult show by casting SHALLOW GRAVE star Christopher Ecclestone as the Doctor with pop beauty Billie Piper as his sidekick, and by changing the show's logo and the size of the Tardis - the iconic time-travelling machine.

But fans are furious about the changes so have allegedly inundated the makers with hate mail and threatening email messages.

A BBC source says, "Some members of the production team have been sent intimidating emails, even death threats and some have requested their web addresses be changed and their names withdrawn from the public domain."

The new series will hit British TV screens in February (05).
