The film comes from the director of ‘Tangled’ and the songwriting duo behind ‘Frozen’.
Disney has announced that the next famous tale the studio will be tackling is classic Jack and the Beanstalk which is set to become an animated feature titled Gigantic. The new project was announced during the D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center in California on Friday and production is said to have already begun.
Songwriting duo Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez are working on Disney’s Gigantic.
Directing will be Nathan Greno who is best known for his work on 2010’s Tangled and sequel Tangled Ever After. “We hope this will be the definitive version of Jack and the Beanstalk, with comedy and deep emotion,” said Greno told the audience at D23.
The film’s music will be composed by duo Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who won an Oscar in 2014 for their song ‘Let It Go’ from the mega-successful Frozen soundtrack.
On Friday the pair were invited onstage to give a preview of one of the film’s songs, which included the lyrics, 'He’s cutest when he’s jumping on a spongecake. He’s funny when he’s running across the floor. I hope I won’t be stepping on my angry little leprechaun. Because he’s all I’ve been praying for,’ according to The Wrap.
So far the only details we know about Gigantic’s plot are that it will take place in Spain during the Age of Exploration. It will focus on Jack who discovers a world above the clouds when he climbs a magical beanstalk. Another character already announced is 11 year old Inma, an 11-year-old, 60-foot-tall girl whom Jack promises to help find her way home. Gigantic is scheduled for release sometime in 2018.
