Retired soccer legend Diego Maradona has denied allegations of domestic abuse after video footage emerged online appearing to show the sportsman lashing out at his former fiancee.
Rocio Oliva secretly filmed the altercation on her cell phone after becoming embroiled in a heated argument with her then-partner at their home.
The brief video clip features Maradona getting up from a sofa and angrily approaching the 24 year old in the kitchen, chastising her for using her phone.
When she responds, the camera shakes violently as Maradona raises his right hand and Oliva can be heard pleading, "Stop! Stop! Stop hitting, Diego!".
However, the Argentinian soccer icon, 53, has since spoken out about the incident, claiming he only grabbed and threw the cell phone and never actually struck Oliva.
He says, "Yes, I threw the phone, but I swear I have never raised my hand against a woman. The episode started and ended like that. I admit to throwing the phone, but nothing else."
Reports suggest the footage was filmed at Maradona's home in Buenos Aires in early October (14), four months after the couple initially split in June (14). Maradona and Oliva soon reunited, only to break up for good shortly afterwards.
