David Bowie beats Kings and Queens to become the best dressed Britain in history.
Music pop icon, David Bowie has been officially named the best dressed Britain in history.
The verdict came after Bowie topped a poll by BBC History magazine, and won the title with 48.5 % of the votes.
The 66 year-old was joined by nine other individuals who were nominated for the title by fashion experts and leading academics in the October issue of the magazine that highlighted their impact on British fashion.
Bowie beat the likes of Henry III, Georgiana Cavendish-Duchess of Devonshire; Queen Elizabeth I and the original dandy Beau Brummell, a male fashion icon from the 19th century who is said to have spent six hours a day getting ready.
Fashion designer Wayne Hemingway, who is the co-founder of 'Red or Dead', voted for Bowie and told the magazine, "Bowie has profoundly influenced so many of us. The first concert I went to on my own was David Bowie's Aladdin Sane tour at King George's Hall in Blackburn in 1973".
Adding, "Here was a creative genius who understood art and design, looked cool, inspired us and upset the establishment. All these attributes lead to things that drive humankind forward. change."
Bowie, who is one of Britain's most revered performers, has had a very decorated wardrobe over the years, from wearing spandex, jumpsuits, platform boots and so much more. Over his 50 year career the singer always manages to stay with the present and inspires the fashion world.
The magazine's editor, Rob Attar, reflected on the 'Ashes to Ashes' singer receiving the most votes via The Independent, "Bowie had to overcome a king, two queens and a political heavyweight to triumph in our poll, and in doing so has struck a blow for 20th and 21st-century fashions".
This may not be Bowie's only award of 2013 as his comeback album, 'The Next Day', is favourite for the Mercury Music Prize.
