The Take This Job and Shove It singer/songwriter was charged with obstructing the due administration of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from as far back as 1993, owing the U.S. government more than $466,000 (£291,250).

The sum also includes funds owed from between 2008 and 2013, when he either failed to file his tax returns or simply did not pay what was owed, reports the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Instead, Coe, who is paid in cash for each concert, is alleged to have used the money to pay off his gambling debts and other fees.

The 76 year old entered his guilty plea in a U.S. District Court in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Monday (14Sep15).

The crime carries up to three years in prison, in addition to a $250,000 (£156,250) fine.
