The rocker broke his right leg in a tumble off a stage in Gothenburg, Sweden during a concert last month (Jun15) and he had to undergo surgery for a cracked bone.

He was faced with having to axe several gigs including a headline set at the iconic festival and shows at London's Wembley Stadium but was determined to ignore the advice of doctors - until he tried to stand up.

Grohl tells Q magazine, "I was f**king gutted that we had to cancel shows. The U.K. has always been so good to us, and to play Wembley again was like a homecoming of sorts. I actually thought we could pull those shows off at first, but my doctor strongly advised me to take it easy for at least a few weeks.

"To be honest, there was no f**king way on earth I could have done those gigs so soon after surgery. Just putting my foot down to the floor was one of the most painful things I'd ever experienced in my life. Even a trip to the kitchen was exhausting."
