'Fifty Shades of Grey' is here - but is it any good?
Ok, so after that bloke from Sons of Anarchy dropped out, and that bloke from The Fall jumped in, after the movie got a restricting rating and then a not-too-restriction rating and after somebody said it was really kinky but also not that kinky, Fifty Shades of Grey is finally here. The steamy tale of billionaire Christian Grey and his submissive mistress Anastasia Steele has finally made it to the screen - but, well, is it any good?
Dakota Johnson plays Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey
Surprisingly. The critics don't despise it. In fact, some said it's rather sweet.
"It's no Clint Eastwood's superheroic saving of 'The Bridges of Madison County,' but it'll do," wrote Matt Prigge of the Metro.
"Fifty Shades of Grey is not the lame, hot-and-bothered fantasy romance many, including myself, thought it would be. It's got wit and humor and a modest intelligence about human behavior that, say, the Twilight movies never had," wrote Richard Lawson of Vanity Fair.
"The movie Fifty Shades of Grey is considerably better written than the book. It is also sort of classy-looking, in a generic, TV-ad-for-bath-oil way," said Lisa Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly.

"The stylish and mostly satisfying film will be [a blockbuster], and deservedly so. Starring a vivacious Dakota Johnson and a game Jamie Dornan, Taylor-Johnson's erotic romance is a skillful distillation of James' first book," wrote Inkoo Kang of The Wrap.
Some were disappointed that we didn't get to see a little more flesh.
"We may have all been curious going in, but by the time the credits roll, there's another question that springs to mind: Is that all there is?" wrote Lindsey Bahr of the Associated Press.
"Fifty Shades Of Grey is embarrassing and depressing, especially when considering the picture as a reflection of the quality and state of mainstream modern romance today," said Rodrigo Perez of The Playlist.
