In a world where people are trying to break down beauty stereotypes and body-shaming, seeing a celebrity get criticized because of their slender frame seems rather pathetic. As much as women and girls are being encouraged to love themselves no matter what they weigh, some people like Daisy Ridley are scorned simply because they happen to have model-esque figures.

Most people are praising the 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' star for embodying such a powerful female figure on screen, but one person used that image of Rey to take aim at her body in a scathing Instagram post. The image featured a speech bubble above Rey's head reading: 'I can't believe the unrealistic expectations I'm setting for young girls. Who cast me anyway? Don't they know real women have curves?'

Understandably, Ridley was outraged to branded as anything less than a 'real woman', and made her feelings known. ''Real women' are all shapes and sizes, all ethnicities, all levels of brave, have families, don't have families. I am a 'real woman' like every other woman in this world', she replied to the post, which has since been deleted.

However, Ridley used her own Instagram account to re-iterate her message in longer form. 'What's weird is most of the time I see such gorgeous messages from people around the world', she said. 'People who relate to something in Rey they haven't found in a female character before. People whose daughters now think they can do things without the aid of a man.'

'I will not apologise for how I look, what I say and how I live my life because what's happening inside is much more important anyway and I am striving to be the best version of myself, even if I stumble along the way', she continues. 'Kindness isn't going to cure the world of all its awfulness but it's a good place to begin.'
