A German heavy metal festival featuring Cradle Of Filth and SEPULTURA has been marred by the death of a fan.
The man, who has yet to be named, allegedly passed away as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning at Wacken Open Air festival, which kicked off on Thursday (02Aug12).
He is believed to have died after falling asleep underneath the cover of a canvas tent that contained a power generator which released the toxic gas.
A statement from organisers at Ics Festival Service GmbH reads, "Unfortunately, we have sad news: We were informed by the German Red Cross that there has been a death at the Wacken Open Air 2012. We are shocked and send our condolences to family and friends of the deceased."
Emergency services were called to the scene, but the festival-goer was pronounced dead after resuscitation attempts failed.
Metal acts including Ministry, Sylosis, In Flames, Sick Of It All and Watain also performed at the three-day event.
