It remains one of the odder friendships in the mainstream music sphere, yet Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Jay Z are still evidently as tight as ever – so much so that they’re going to be spending New Year’s Eve together. This isn’t just going to be a small gathering with Gwyneth Paltrow and Beyonce, a few plates full of left over mince pies and a crowd around the television to watch a tipsy Jools Holland try not to fall over whilst presenting his annual Hootenany, though; it’s been announced that Coldplay will be joining Hova for a show at the Barclay’s Center in New York – the first time the Brits have played the city for several years.

It’s not the first time the two acts have collaborated on New Year’s Ever: back in 2010 they both played live at a concert in Las Vegas. Their most recent live coming together meanwhile was earlier this year when they both played at the 2012 Paralympic Games closing ceremony in London.

Coldplay will also be playing a show at the Barclays Center the night before, on December 30, though these will not be with Jay Z according to the New York Times. The pair of dates will mark the first time the band have played the area since 2005.
