Ciara says she and ex-fiancé Future are ''cool.''
The 'Body Party' hitmaker, who split from the rapper late last year following cheating rumours, insists they are still on good terms for the sake of their 10-month-old son, Future Jr.
The 29-year-old singer said: ''It clearly didn't work out. But I have the greatest gift, the greatest joy of my life is my son. Honestly, I feel like everything in life happens for a reason and my son has been the greatest gift that God has given me in my life and been the most game-changing thing that's happened to my life, in a necessary way.''
The former couple initially split in August amid rumours Future was having an affair with his stylist, Tyrina Lee, while on tour, but the couple moved back in together in September in a bid to repair their romance before splitting again in December.
But Ciara claims there is no animosity between them.
She told 'The Breakfast Club' on New York radio station Power 105.1: ''We're cool. We have a child together and as a parent it's important to be able to communicate. We don't talk every day, there's no need to. But my son is clearly the connection between he and I and as parents I think it's important to be able to communicate. I like to stay happy and I like to live life light and make the best of life. And I think that when you carry a certain kind of energy, if you have like a funky energy that you hold within yourself, you just can't grow.
''You live and you learn. My son has given me so much clarity. Now I'm like a full-on woman.''
