Last night's season finale of Grey's Anatomy was a serious tear-jerker for fans of the show, as the scriptwriters finally waved goodbye to one of the viewers' favorite characters. Last week, it was apparent that Lexie, one of the show's most popular doctors (played by Chyler Leigh) was in a pretty bad way, trapped in the rubble of a plane crash but many viewers had been keeping their fingers crossed for a dramatic and heroic turn of fate.
It wasn't to be, however and Lexie met a heart-breaking end, after a gut-wrenching reunion with Mark, it was time for final farewells. The show's creator Shonda Rimes posted a lengthy tweet after the show, explaining how hard it had been for her to write this final episode, knowing how much the viewers loved Lexie and how much she had enjoyed working with Chyler. "This finale was incredibly hard to write," said Shonda. "I did not enjoy it. It made me sick and it made me sad. We end the season not knowing anything about the future."
She then added "I love Chyler and I love the character of Lexie Grey. She was an important member of my Grey's family. This was not an easy decision. But it was a decision that Chyler and I came to together. We had a lot of thoughtful discussion about it and ultimately we both decided this was the right time for her character's journey to end. As far as I'm concerned Chyler will always remain a part of the Shondaland family and I can't wait to work with her again in the future."
