Christopher Nolan’s latest movie Interstellar has been earning big bucks at the box office and generating considerable Oscar buzz since it’s release last weekend. But its success doesn't mean the director would be willing to have a go at taking on an established 'space franchise'. Of course, by that we mean the ultimate space saga, Star Wars.

In an interview with The Daily Beast, Nolan admitted he was excited to see what director J.J. Abrams had planned for Episode VII.

“I’m pretty excited to see what J.J. is going to do with that,” he said. “I’m excited to see that he’s shooting on film and actually built the Millennium Falcon.”

However Nolan himself would have been a little more hesitant if he’d had been offered the coveted Star Wars gig. “As far as whether or not I would have ever done it, the truth is I think I’d be afraid to touch it,” said Nolan.

“He’s boldly going where he went before in Star Trek, and it takes colossal balls.” The director then added he was a lot more comfortable trying to do his own thing, rather than “carrying the weight and expectation of the entire world—particularly 40-somethings like me who live and die with each new bit of information about Star Wars.”

Nolan also touched on his previous talks with James Bond producers and said he felt the franchise doesn’t need him “right now”.

“They do a great job - they don’t need me right now, and Sam Mendes is an extraordinary talent. I will absolutely be first in line to see the next Bond film as I have been for all of them,” he said.

But as for wether or not Nolan was planning to return to the superhero genre now the The Dark Knight trilogy was over. Sadly that seems to be a no.

“I worked on it for a long time—almost 10 years—and had an incredible experience,” he said. “It was totally fulfilling, so I’m done with that part of my life.”
